Classic INSANITY vs INSANITY Asylum

First of all, Insanity Asylum Volume 1 is rather advanced so it is highly recommended you have completed classic INSANITY or P90X first. Classic INSANITY focuses on MAX Interval training, an intense, fat burning cardio system, in addition to some body resistance workouts.  Unlike classic INSANITY, INSANITY Asylum is primarily body resistance based training yet still results in a killer cardio workout, but ups the ante with fewer and shorter breaks all while targeting the whole body.

Classic INSANITY virtually ignored the back and bicep muscle groups, but thanks to pullup exercises, resistance bands, and dumbbells, Asylum now delivers a total body muscle and cardio workout. You will be doing plenty of chest exercises, shoulder presses, squats, curls, triceps pushups, back flys, and of course jumping. Never before has a program offered a complete, total body workout.

If after reading this review you don’t think INSANITY Asylum Volume 1 is extreme enough, you can do the most difficult Beachbody® hybrid program available, the INSANITY/Asylum hybrid schedule. I shudder to even think about that so my hats off to you if you can accomplish that goal!

What equipment do you need with INSANITY ASYLUM?

Asylum now includes many tools to help sculpt your body and train you to an elite athlete status.

Shaun T loves to use the jump rope for warm ups and “Active” rest periods. Very fitting, since jump roping is a great calorie burning exercise. The Strength bands are a terrific new addition and add resistance from everything from pushups to X jumps. Unfortunately, Beachbody stop including them in the base set so you have to order the Deluxe set to have them or order them separately. Trust me, you WANT those strength bands to get the full impact of Insanity Asylum results! The Pullup Assist Bandsare a very useful tool for anyone looking to improve their pullups and is far more beneficial than using only a chair. I highly recommend it!

Both resistance bands and dumbbells take center stage in the Strength workout. Shaun T does an excellent job of showing modifications but he also has a separate video track that shows him doing every move using the resistance bands. This makes it very easy to follow the workout using the bands.
